Barricaded Gunman In Harrisburg Identified By Police

Police have identified the gunman at Pennswood apartments who shot his 25-year-old girlfriend while holding her hostage with his 2-year-old son, authorities said.

Derrick Hutcherson, 36, of Harrisburg, shot his girlfriend above her left eye, police said. She escaped with help of a neighbor Monday and was recovering at a local hospital, reports say.

Police have clarified that the grandmother is not the grandmother of the child as previously reported but the grandmother of the woman who was shot.

The standoff with police is in its second day.

Many of the neighbors have had to shelter in place or were evacuated, as Daily Voice previously reported.

Police hope to deescalate the situation and arrest Hutcherson.

At that time Hutcherson will be arrested on the following charges related to this standoff:

  • F1 Criminal Attempt - Criminal Homicide
  • F1 Aggravated Assault - Attempts to cause serious bodily injury or causes injury with extreme indifference
  • F1 Burglary - Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Bodily Injury Crime
  • F2 Unlawful Restraint/ Serious Bodily Injury
  • F2 Possession Of Firearm Prohibited 
  • F3 Endangering Welfare of Children- Parent Guardian/Other Commits Offense
  • M2 Recklessly Endangering Another Person
